Limitaciones y potencialidades de la industria manufacturera textil de la República Dominicana

El siguiente trabajo de carácter exploratorio y descriptivo, analiza la industria manufacturera textil dominicana, en el marco de la firma del Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Estados Unidos, Centroamérica y República Dominicana (CAFTA-DR). Para ello, se identificaron las principales corrientes teóricas de integración en América Latina, la evolución del sector textil y la confección, los acuerdos vigentes del sector, la suscripción del CAFTA-DR, el comercio mundial de textiles y las condiciones sectoriales de la industria en República Dominicana, en comparación con Honduras por ser el país más competitivo de la región en el sector y miembro parte del tratado.
This paper presents exploratory and descriptive work that analyzes the textile manufacturing industry of the Dominican Republic under the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Central America, and the Dominican Republic (CAFTA-DR). For this, the principal current theories of integration in Latin America were identified, and used to analyze the evolution of the textile sector, the current agreements in the sector, the subscription of the CAFTA-DR, the global textile industry, and the sector conditions of the industry in the Dominican Republic that were compared to those of Honduras since within the region Honduras is the most competitive country in the sector and a member of the agreement.
