Resumen: Ernesto Mario Barreda se inserta en la línea de los grandes viajeros argentinos que han proyectado su mirada sobre la antigua metrópoli española tomando en cuenta tanto su patrimonio histórico y artístico como el estado en que se encuentra el país, en este caso al comenzar el siglo XX. Este artículo aborda el libro de Barreda no en cuanto documento histórico sino como texto literario y se centra en dos puntos básicos: la evolución de la mirada del visitante en contacto con el objeto de su viaje y los elementos que se mantienen firmes a lo largo del relato. De este modo se puede situar su posición dentro de la literatura viática argentina de asunto español.
Abstract: Ernesto Mario Barreda belongs to the tradition of the great Argentinian travellers who studied the old Spanish home country and who took into account its historical and artistic heritage as well as the state the country was in at the beginning of the 20th century. Considering Barreda’s book not as a historical document but as a literary text, this article focuses on two main points: on the one hand it deals with the evolution of Barreda’s outlook on Spain when he is in contact with the object of his journey and, on the other hand, with the elements which remain unchanged all along the text. Thus one can determine the place Barreda occupies in the history of Argentinian travel literature with a Spanish theme.
