Una nueva mirada sobre el Liber Prodigiorum

Resumen: El Liber Prodigiorum es una recopilación de eventos considera-dos como prodigios en la Roma Republicana extraída de la obra de Tito Li-vio. Modernos estudios han reivindicado el rol social del reporte de prodi-gios y su expiación, impugnando la tesis tradicional que los considera como una muestra de superstición que origina miedo en la población y manipula-ción por la clase dirigente. Se realiza un estudio cuantitativo de los eventos, distribuyéndolos en categorías, lo que permite un análisis cualitativo de los mismos que prueba que solamente un 8% puede ser considerado una inven-ción. Evaluar la veracidad de los eventos reportados permite revalorizar esta recopilación, usualmente menospreciada, e incluso utilizarla como base his-tórica para la investigación de eventos de los que todavía desconocemos su causa, lo que se ejemplifica con las “lluvias de sangre” y la reciente hipótesis que las relaciona con meteoritos a partir de la acaecida en India en 2001.
Abstract: The Liber Prodigiorum is a compilation of events considered as prodigies in the Roman Republic extracted from the work of Livy. Modern studies have vindicated the social role of the report of prodigies and their ex-piation, refuting the traditional thesis that considers them as a sign of super-stition that originates fear in the population and manipulation by the ruling class. A quantitative study of the events is carried out, distributing them into categories, which allows a qualitative analysis of the events proving that on-ly a 8 % can be considered an invention. Evaluate the veracity of the events reported allows us to revalue this collection, usually underestimated, and even to use it as a historical basis for the investigation of events of which we are still unaware of its cause, which is exemplified by the "blood rains" and the recent hypothesis that relates them to meteorites since the one that hap-pened in India in 2001.
