Los vuelos de Rima, la mujer pájaro

Resumen: William Henry Hudson reúne en el personaje de Rima su admiración declarada por las niñas, debido a su inteligencia original y espontaneidad, y el amor por la ornitología, que estudiaba en sus hábitats naturales a las calandrias, gorriones y mirlos, entre otras muchas aves de su interés. De la yuxtaposición entre ambos elementos surge Rima, la niña-mujerpájaro protagonista de Mansiones verdes. Son múltiples las razones para admirar a Rima. La tesis principal de este artículo es que Rima encarna el rol de una ecoheroína. La niña-mujerpájaro es vegetariana, porque matar animales la hace sufrir, se viste con la seda de una araña que convive en su hombro, es capaz de atrapar las flechas de los nativos antes de que lastimen sus presas y devolverlas a los cazadores, se mueve en el aire como un pájaro y se comunica con la naturaleza. Estas características fabulosas y su deber en defensa de la selva tropical sedujeron a los creadores de cómics estadounidenses que la metamorfosearon en “The jungle girl” y la pusieron codo a codo con Batman y Robin luchando contra el mal.
Abstract: William Henry Hudson gets together in Rima his admiration for girls due to their spontaneity and original intelligence; and his love for ornithology, which studied birds in their native habitats. From the juxtaposition of these two passions emerges Rima, the birdgirlwoman, main character of Green Mansions. There are multiple reasons to admire Rima. The main thesis of this article is that she embodies the role of an ecoheroine. The birdgirl is a vegetarian because killing animals makes her suffer, she dresses herself with the silk of a spider that lives on her shoulder, she is able to catch the arrows of the natives before they hurt their prey and return them to the hunters, she moves in the air like a bird and she communicates with nature. These fabulous characteristics and her duty in defense of the rainforest seduced American comic creators, who metamorphosed her into “The jungle girl” and put her side by side with Batman and Robin fighting against evil.
