Resumen: El problema de la guerra parece haber dado lugar, en los últimos tiempos, a algunos de los debates más cruciales en el campo de la teoría normativa. El presente trabajo aborda la cuestión tal como aparece en la obra de Michael Walzer, desde sus primeros escritos. Denunciando los límites de la filosofía positivista, Walzer, enrolado entre los autores “comunitaristas”, reivindica la posibilidad de un discurso racional en el ámbito valorativo, sobre la base de analizar nuestras tradiciones compartidas. Oponiéndose al realismo, rescata de la filosofía clásica las nociones de ius ad bellum y ius in bello, las que utilizará para realizar juicios concretos, cuestionando tanto la guerra de Vietnam, en la década del setenta, cuanto en nuestros días la invasión a Irak. Su trabajo no se encuentra, con todo, exento de contradicciones. El análisis de lo que denomina la “emergencia suprema” nos reconduce a la pregunta sobre la posible autonomía del orden político respecto de la moral.
Abstract: The problem of the war seems to have given place, in the recent times, to some of the most crucial debates in the field of the normative theory. The present paper undertakes the question just as it appears in the work of Michael Walzer, since its first writings. Denouncing the limits of the positivist philosophy, Walzer, enrolled among the communitarianist authors, claims the possibility of a rational speech in the valorative sphere, on the base of analyzing our shared traditions. Opposing to realism, he rescues from the classical philosophy the notions of ius ad bellum and ius in bello, that will be utilized to carry out concrete judgments, questioning the Vietnam War, in the seventies, and in our days the invasion to Iraq. Its work is not found, with all, exempt of contradictions. The analysis of what calls the “supreme emergency” leads us to the question on the possible autonomy of the political order regarding the morals.
