Genocidal violence against Indigenous peoples continues to be silenced in multiple experiences in the Americas. The genocide in Guatemala operated on two fundamental practices: unprecedented violence against the Mayans and the displacement of entire populations. In the struggle between fixation and displacement, new territory and alternative ways of inhabiting it are produced. In this lecture, 2023-2024 Center Research Fellow Pilar Perez (National University of Río Negro, Argentina) will explore perceptions about territory that emerge in the testimonies of Guatemalan genocide survivors and examine the discussion of its cultural, social, political, and economic dimensions
