The marine catfish, Genidens barbus (Lacépède 1803), is an anadromous species of great commercial value. Studies conducted on this species indicate that its distribution is limited to estuaries in the coastal zone and on the maritime platform from Bahía (Brazil) to Bahía San Blás (Argentina). The objective of this work is to confirm the current distribution of sea catfish, in the lower basin of the rio Negro, province of Río Negro and to provide information regarding the physiological situation of the species in the study región. . The samplings were made during the period between October 2017 and March 2018, 112 specimens of G. barbus were captured, with sizes between 277 mm and 530 mm of total length, with males prevailing by 98 %. The species was recorded from the El Cóndor Beach to the town of Guardia Mitre inclusive. None of the specimens showed evidence of migrating for reproductive purposes.
El bagre marino, Genidens barbus (Lacépède 1803), es una especie anádroma de gran valor comercial. Estudios realizados sobre esta especie indican que su distribución se limita a estuarios en la zona costera y en la plataforma marítima desde Bahía (Brasil) hasta Bahía San Blas (Argentina). El objetivo del presente trabajo es confirmar la distribución actual del bagre marino, en la cuenca inferior del río Negro, provincia de Río Negro y aportar información respecto a la situación fisiológica de la especie en la región de estudio. Los muestreos se realizaron durante el período comprendido entre octubre de 2017 y marzo de 2018, capturándose 112 ejemplares de G. barbus, con tallas entre 277 mm y 530 mm de longitud total, prevaleciendo los machos en un 98%. La especie se registró desde el Balneario El Cóndor hasta la localidad de Guardia Mitre inclusive. Ninguno de los ejemplares mostró evidencia de estar realizando una migración con fines reproductivos.
