El sistema semillero hortícola argentino = The argentinean vegetable seed system

El análisis del sistema de las semillas hortícolas en Argentina es un medio para establecer las fortalezas y debilidades de sus componentes, facilitando el diagnóstico de posibles acciones para mejorar el sistema. Este trabajo describe los diferentes componentes basado en estadísticas, estudios previos e informantes calificados. Se observa que el abastecimiento del mercado nacional de semillas hortícolas es adecuado en cantidad y calidad, su valor oscila entre U$S 50 y 60 M, prevaleciendo las cultivares importadas. Históricamente el valor de las importaciones supera al de las exportaciones, habiéndose exportado U$S 17,0 y 12,4 M en los años 2018 y 2019 respetivamente. La producción nacional de semillas hortícolas para el mercado interno se concentra en especies de polinización abierta (OP) y representa entre el 30 y 35 % del valor total del mercado nacional. El área de producción es el centro-oeste del país y la cebolla es la semilla de mayor valor económico. Las huertas familiares y comunitarias se han incrementado en forma sostenida y con éstas la demanda de semillas agroecológicas.
The analysis of the vegetable seed system in Argentina allows the establishment of the strengths and weaknesses of its components, facilitating the diagnosis of possible actions to improve the system. This work describes the different components based on statistics, previous studies, and qualified informants. The supply of the national market for vegetable seeds is observed as being adequate in quantity and quality, and its value ranges between US $ 50 and 60 M, with imported cultivars prevailing. Historically, the value of imports exceeds that of exports, with US $ 17.0 and 12.4 M having been exported in the years 2018 and 2019 respectively. The national production of vegetable seeds for the domestic market is concentrated on open pollinated species (OP) and represents between 30 and 35 % of the total value of the national market. The production area is the center-west of the country and onion seeds are of greatest economic value. Family and community kitchen gardens have increased steadily and with them the demand for agroecological seeds.
