Migraciones y crisis: Los factores coyunturales en el arribo de suizos a la Argentina (1856-1939)

El artículo analiza las migraciones de suizos hacia Argentina entre la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y la primera mitad del siglo XX. Se examinan los diversos factores coyunturales que propiciaron la movilidad de personas desde el país europeo hacia diversos lugares de América y en especial de Argentina. Para ello aborda, por un lado, la situación de Suiza durante los siglos XIX y XX y su configuración como país expulsor de población y, por el otro, estudia los mecanismos implementados por Argentina para la atracción de inmigrantes. Al mismo tiempo, la continuidad del movimiento migratorio en el periodo de entreguerras –Misiones fue principal escenario receptor en esta etapa– se debió a la adopción de políticas migratorias restrictivas por otros países hasta ese entonces receptores de inmigrantes.
The article analyzes the migration of Swiss to Argentina between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The various short-term factors that led to the mobility of people from the European country to various places in America and especially Argentina are examined. To do this, on the one hand, it addresses the situation of Switzerland during the 19th and 20th centuries and its configuration as a population-expelling country and, on the other, it studies the mechanisms implemented by Argentina for the attraction of immigrants. At the same time, the continuity of the migratory movement in the interwar period –Missions was the main receiving scenario at this stage– was due to the adoption of restrictive migration policies by other countries until then receiving immigrants.
