Cognición y explicación en el debate reciente sobre el representacionalismo en la ciencia cognitiva corporizada

Algunas de las propuestas enmarcadas en la denominada ciencia cognitiva corporizada han sido acusadas por dispensar injustificadamente de la noción de representación mental. A través de un meta-análisis del debate en torno al anti-representacionalismo corporizado, distingo diferentes estrategias en las que estas acusaciones se han asentado y advierto de los problemas que conlleva tratar la noción como teóricamente neutral. Doy argumentos para mostrar en qué sentido tales acusaciones son infundadas y para abonar una lectura ampliada del ataque a la noción de representación mental: lo que se ha interpretado como un ataque generalizado hacia la noción de representación mental debe más justamente redescribirse como una propuesta de redireccionamiento y reorganización general de la investigación en las ciencias cognitivas.
Some of the theoretical proposals within the so-called embodied cognitive science have been accused of unjustifiably dispensing with the notion of mental representation. Through a meta-analysis of the debate over embodied anti-representationalism, different strategies which are at the basis of these accusations are described -warning of the problems involved in treating mental representation as theoretically neutral. The paper puts forth arguments to show how these accusations are unfounded and to support an extended interpretation of the anti-representationalist stance: what has been interpreted as a generalised assault towards the notion of mental representation has to be understood more soundly as a proposal for the general redirection and reorientation of research in the cognitive sciences.
