1810 en la Cuenca del Río Uruguay: Patriotas, insurgentes y enemigos en un territorio disputado

Al negarse a reconocer a la Primera Junta, tanto Montevideo como Asunción se transformaron en centros de poder alternativos al gobierno revolucionario de Buenos Aires. En ese contexto, la cuenca del río Uruguay se convirtió en un espacio privilegiado de disputas entre poderes supralocales, así como un temprano escenario de conflagraciones armadas. Pese a ello, permanece como un tema poco explorado por la historiografía reciente. Este artículo pone el foco en la irrupción de la guerra y movilización revolucionaria en el Uruguay Medio, buscando distanciarse de perspectivas nacionales o provinciales que han primado hasta ahora. Para ello, reconstruye los avatares del año 1810 en los pueblos ribereños del actual Litoral argentino, de las Misiones y de la Banda Oriental, cuando Asunción y Montevideo todavía intentaban consolidar la posición regencista en la región.
By refusing to recognize the Primera Junta, both Montevideo and Asuncion became alternative power centres to the revolutionary government of Buenos Aires. In this context, the Uruguay River basin became a privileged space of disputes among supra-local powers, and of armed conflagration at an early stage. Nevertheless, this remains a subject that has not been much explored by recent historiography. This article focuses on the outbreak of war and revolutionary mobilization in the middle course of the Uruguay Valley, seeking to distance itself from a national or provincial perspective that has prevailed so far. In order to do so, it reconstructs the vicissitudes of the year 1810 in the coastal towns of current Argentine Littoral, the Missions and the Banda Oriental, when Asuncion and Montevideo were still trying to consolidate the regency position in the region.
