El Centro Cultural Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina: La primera etapa del Pompidou porteño (1978-1983)

Este artículo aborda el proceso de creación y los primeros años (1978-1983) del Centro Cultural Ciudad de Buenos Aires (CCCBA), en la actualidad Centro Cultural Recoleta, un ambicioso proyecto patrimonial y urbanístico de la última dictadura cívico-militar argentina. Inspirado en el Centro de Artes Georges Pompidou de Paris, la municipalidad porteña convocó a arquitectos vinculados a la vanguardia artística argentina para refuncionalizar un convento del siglo XVIII y transformarlo en un complejo museístico de artes plásticas, cine, música contemporánea y tango. Este trabajo reúne un corpus de fuentes primarias inédito compuesto por decretos, recortes hemerográficos, catálogos, fotografías, planos, entre otros documentos provenientes de distintos acervos. Desde un enfoque cultural, se estudia el CCCBA como una institución cultural en formación en cuyas prácticas se dirime la tradición, lo residual y lo emergente. Aquí se analizan los cambios ocurridos en el proyecto original, los actores e instituciones que entraron en juego así como los usos diferenciales que se hicieron de ese espacio cuya remodelación demandó más de una década. De esta manera se propone una reflexión sobre el rol de las instituciones culturales, las programaciones y sus usos en tiempos de crisis de legitimidad del régimen militar.
This article explores the creation process and the transformations that occurred during the first years (1978-1983) of the Centro Cultural Ciudad de Buenos Aires (CCCBA), currently Centro Cultural Recoleta, an ambitious heritage and urban development project of the last Argentine civil-military dictatorship. Inspired by the Georges Pompidou Arts Center in Paris, the city council called on architects linked to the Argentine artistic avant-garde to repurpose an 18th-century convent and transform it into a museum complex for the visual arts, cinema, contemporary music and tango. However, only part of the project was completed. This work investigates the changes that occurred in the original project, the actors and institutions that came into play, as well as the differential uses that were made of this space, whose remodeling took more than a decade. To this end, it brings together a corpus of primary sources consisting of decrees, newspaper clippings, catalogues, photographs, plans, and other documents from different collections. From a cultural perspective, the CCCBA is studied as a cultural institution in formation whose practices decide on tradition, the residual, and the emerging. In this way, a reflection is proposed on the role of cultural institutions, programming, and their uses in times of crisis of legitimacy of the military regime.
