- A summary of the first clinical trials of BNCT for patients with intracranial tumour1 in the USA from 1951 to 1961 is presented, describing the boron compounds used. Among a considerable amount of boron compounds studied both experimentally and in biodistributions, Sodium tetraborate, sodium pentaborate, p-carboxyphenylboronic acid (PCPB) and sodium closodecahydrodecaborate (GB-10) were chosen for clinical trials. The number of patients, the route of administration, the facility and the clinical outcome are reported.
