El presente artículo realiza un estudio del pensamiento del intelectual uruguayo Alberto Methol Ferré, a fin de delimitar su aporte al campo de estudio de la integración regional –en tanto campo de conocimiento– en América Latina y el Caribe. Methol Ferré nació en 1929 y nos acompañó hasta el año 2009. El objetivo consiste en comprender las ideas esbozadas por Methol Ferré en su contexto de surgimiento y las diferentes tradiciones y autores sobre los que abreva –reconociendo los aportes que tomó tanto del campo político como del campo intelectual–. Asimismo, se esboza un ejercicio de prospectiva sobre la vigencia de su pensamiento en la actualidad.
This paper provides a study of the thought of the Uruguayan intellectual Methol Alberto Ferré, so as to define its contribution to the field of study of regional integration –as a field of knowledge– in Latin America and the Caribbean. The goal is to understand the ideas outlined by Methol Ferré in the context of emergence and the different traditions and authors that he took –by recognizing that he found contributions from the political field as well as the intellectual field–. Also, a prospective exercise is outlined so as to grasp the validity of his thought today.
