Retórica, lengua y discurso en la elaboración de sermones (Córdoba, Argentina, siglos XVII al XIX)

Este artículo procura dar muestras del desarrollo del sermón de Córdoba (Argentina), siglos XVII al XIX, principalmente jesuita, para mostrar la historicidad de los procedimientos retóricos y las características de su escritura. La pertenencia de este tipo de textos a la tradición estructural de la sermonística ha grabado sus huellas retóricas, lingüísticas y discursivas en un modelo propio para la difusión de ideas, de índole clerical. Dicho modelo pervivió durante largo tiempo y en él jugaron un papel central las bibliotecas jesuíticas, al propiciar que el libro circulara y nutriera la composición de sermones en franca conexión intelectual con el acervo lingüístico, literario y doctrinal del mundo cristiano de aquellas épocas. La indagación en el grado de elaboración literaria del discurso permite reconocer los rasgos definidores del sermón, pese al devenir histórico de contextos y auditorios, y ubicar el género en el largo camino de la retórica hacia su transformación en el arte del discurso, tal como la conocemos hoy.
This paper aims to evince some indications of the development of the sermon of Córdoba (Argentina, 17th to 19th centuries), mainly the Jesuit one, to account for the historicity of the rhetorical procedures and the characteristics of its writing. This kind of texts, belonging to the sermon structural tradition, have stamped rhetorical, linguistic, and discursive traces on the way of diffusing ideas, a clerical paradigm that has survived for a long time. In this model, the Jesuit libraries played a central role, because they promote the circulation of the book and nurture the composition of sermons in frank intellectual connection with the linguistic, literary, and doctrinal heritage of the Christian world of those times. The enquiry into the degree of literary elaboration of the discourse allows us to recognize the defining features of the sermon, despite the historical evolution of contexts and audiences, and to locate the genre on the long path of rhetoric towards its transformation into the art of discourse, such as we know it today
