“El método filológico sigue siendo esencialmente el mismo, no importa cuál sea el material”: Acerca del epistolario entre Rodolfo Lenz y Franz Boas

Este artículo propone ofrecer una descripción y análisis inicial del material conservado en el Fondo Lenz, custodiado por la Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación en Santiago de Chile, y mayormente entre los Franz Boas Papers de la American Philosophical Society, correspondiente al intercambio epistolar sostenido entre 1896 y 1931 entre el lingüista germano-chileno Rodolfo Lenz y el antropólogo germano-norteamericano Franz Boas. Se trata de un corpus de unas 17 cartas, en las que ambos científicos intercambian materiales e información sobre el desarrollo de sus estudios, especialmente en lo respectivo a la lengua y la cultura de los pueblos originarios del continente americano, así como a los avances y dificultades en la generación de condiciones de posibilidad propicias para el desarrollo de las disciplinas científicas abocadas a ese estudio.
The aim of this paper is to offer an initial description and analysis of the material preserved at the Fondo Lenz, kept by the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación in Santiago de Chile, and mainly among the Franz Boas Papers of the American Philosophical Society, concerning the letter exchange between the German-Chilean linguist Rodolfo Lenz and the German-American anthropologist Franz Boas, from 1896 to 1931. It consists of a corpus of 17 letters, in which both scientists exchange materials and information on the development of their research, especially regarding the study of language and culture of the native peoples of the American continent, as well as the development and challenges in the production of proper conditions for the progress of research on such scientific subjects.
