La Cruz: símbolo americano, símbolo universal

En el presente trabajo nos proponemos reflexionar sobre un tema que, creemos, en los últimos años no ha tenido la suficiente atención: el simbolismo de la cruz en el continente americano. Dos hipótesis orientan nuestra búsqueda; la primera, que los pueblos amerindios tuvieron a la cruz como un símbolo fundamental cuyos significados no atienden solamente a la divinización de la naturaleza sino también a una reflexión metafísica y filosófica sobre el mundo a partir de lo simbólico. La segunda, que el valor de la cruz en los pueblos precolombinos puede ser puesto en consonancia con el que otras culturas del planeta le han dado al mismo símbolo, lo que podría constituir su trasfondo metafísico. Intentaremos ahondar en el contenido arquetípico que tal símbolo comporta a fin de reafirmar su alcance e importancia originarias en este continente que, con el paso de los siglos, fueron parcialmente eclipsados por la cruz latina impuesta por los conquistadores a su paso.
In this paper we will reflect on a topic we believe it has not been enough attention: the symbolism of the cross in the Americas. Two assumptions guide our search; first, that the Amerindians had the cross as a fundamental symbol whose meaning not only cater to the deification of nature but also a metaphysical and philosophical reflection on the world. The second is that the value of the cross in the these cultures can be brought in line with the meaning that other cultures of the world have given the same symbol. If we will try to deepen into the archetypal content of such symbol in order to reaffirm his range and importance on this continent that, over the centuries, were partially overshadowed by the Latin cross imposed by the conquerors in their wake.
