Algunas consideraciones en torno a los estudios sobre memoria en Latinoamérica

Este artículo propone organizar un itinerario de lecturas por la noción de “memoria” desde sus primeros usos en los reclamos por la Verdad y la Justicia que hicieron los movimientos de Derechos Humanos en los diferentes países latinoamericanos que sufrieron dictaduras militares durante las décadas de 1960/1970/1980 y su posterior análisis y desarrollo en el mundo académico, que dio lugar a la conformación del campo de estudios sobre memoria a finales del S. XX y comienzos del S. XXI. Para ello primero realiza un recorrido por la obra de Elizabeth Jelin (2002, 2004, 2012) en tanto considera que el modo en que ella abordó estas problemáticas resultó pionero y fundador del nuevo campo de estudios. Luego aborda algunas tensiones que existen en la vinculación entre la historiografía, la memoria y el género testimonial. Por último realiza un breve recorrido por los estudios sobre memoria en algunos países de la región. El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar la incidencia que tuvo y tiene la noción de memoria en la esfera pública, a la vez que comprender los diferentes niveles de análisis que es preciso considerar a la hora de realizar una investigación desde esta perspectiva.
This article’s purpuse is to organize a number of writings based on the notion of “memory” from its earliest use in claims for Truth and Justice made by the Human Rights movements in various Latin American countries that suffered military dictatorships during the 1960s / 1970/1980 and the subsequent analysis and development in the academic world, which resulted in the formation of the field of memory studies in the late twentieth’s and early twentyfirst century. It first takes a journey through the work of Elizabeth Jelin (2002, 2004, 2012) for the way she addressed these issues in a way that is now considered pioneer and the foundation of this new field of study. Also it addresses the tensions in the relationship between historiography, memory and testimonial genre. Finally it makes brief remarks on the studies about memory in some countries of the Latin American region. The aim of this article is to show the impact that had and still has the notion of memory in the public sphere, while understanding the different levels of analysis that must be consider when conducting an investigation from this perspective.
