En sus últimos años Foucault dedicó su trabajo a los aspectos de una ética de sí en las relaciones entre sujeto y verdad en la Antigüedad Clásica y Grecorromana, y presentada como una "estética de la existencia". Este es un giro en la obra de Foucault hacia el plano de la subjetivación, es decir hacia los procesos mediante los cuales el sujeto se constituye a sí mismo, en una relación de sí consigo. Abordaremos esta cuestión tomando la noción de bios como bisagra entre sus estudios sobre el biopoder y sus nuevos trabajos en torno a las tekhne tou biou o artes de la vida, en los que se apunta el estudio sobre las técnicas de sí. Para ello, será necesario comprender las modificaciones que Foucault introduce en Historia de la sexualidad II. Este desplazamiento problemático y metodológico, lejos de ser una salida estetizante a la cuestión del sujeto es, por el contrario, un modo de dar respuesta a la inquietud política de Foucault relativa al presente. Esbozamos a partir de esto último un posible análisis respecto de los modos de constitución del sujeto moral en nuestra contemporaneidad.
During the last years of his life, Foucault focused on an ethics of the self tracing the relations between subject and truth in classical Greek and Roman Antiquity, presented as an “aesthetics of existence”. This is a turning point in Foucault’s work, which moves towards subjectivation, i.e. the processes through which the subject constitutes itself through a relation of the self to itself. We will approach this issue on the basis of the concept of bios, a pivotal point in his studies about biopower and his new work on tekhne tou biou or the art of living, which includes the study of the techniques of the self. For this purpose, it is necessary to understand the changes introduced by Foucault in the second volume of The History of Sexuality. This conceptual and methodological shift, far from being an aesthetic response to the issue of the subject, is a way of responding to Foucault’s political concerns about the present. From this last part, we outlined a possible analysis of the ways in which the moral subject is constituted in contemporary life.
