A necessary and sufficient condition for convergence to equilibrium in Kolmogorov systems

A necessary and sufficient condition is established for a state to converge to equilibrium in a dynamical system described as a Kolmogorov system. Because the time reversal of a state converging to equilibrium does not necessarily share this property, this opens the possibility of spontaneous breaking of time reversal symmetry. © 1991 American Institute of Physics.
