Calcareous nannofossils are recorded for the first time in the San Julián Formation, Santa Cruz Province. They were recovered from four core samples of the YCF CC-4 borehole, from horizons assigned to the Meseta Chica Member. Nannofossils are abundant but of low diversity. The most abundant species are Coccolithus pelagicus and Reticulofenestra minuta. The co-occurrence of Triquetrorhabdulus carinatus and Helicosphaera carteri, both species being represented by only one specimen, suggests an age equivalent to biozones NNl- NN2 (latest Oligocene - Early Miocene). The relative abundance of the genus Pontosphaera is consistent with a shallow shelf sea paleoenvironment.
