El artículo constituye una reacción desde la teología a la comunicación inmediata anterior que el sociólogo Hugo José Suarez realizó en el Vº Encuentro Latinoamericano sobre Religión Popular: Memoria, Actualidad, y Promesa, realizado en Santiago de Chile entre el 12-15 de diciembre de 2023. Con el objetivo de favorecer el diálogo interdisciplinario, el texto interpreta la vigencia de este hecho dinámico y diversificado que constituye la Religión Popular en América Latina, y fundamenta la potencia de su valor teologal. Tomando como punto de partida la propuesta de Bernard Lonergan de la fe como ojo del amor religioso, el autor rescata algunas categorías de Santo Tomás de Aquino y Rafael Tello para la valoración teológica del cristianismo popular.
The article constitutes a reaction from theology to the immediate previous com-munication that the sociologist Hugo José Suarez made at the V Latin American Meeting on Popular Religion: Memory, Actuality, and Promise, held in Santiago de Chile between December 12-15, 2023. With the objective of favoring the interdis-ciplinary dialogue, the text interprets the validity of this dynamic and diversified fact that constitutes the Popular Religion in Latin America, and bases the potency of its theological value. Taking as a starting point Bernard Lonergan’s proposal of faith as the eye of religious love, the author rescues some categories of Saint Thomas Aquinas and Rafael Tello for the theological evaluation of popular Chris-tianity.
