El estudio iconográfico de diosas en las culturas del Antiguo Cercano Oriente ha tenido un creciente interés en la comprensión de las antiguas realidades religiosas, demostrando cómo los símbolos visuales pueden complementar los registros textuales. El Dr. Izak Cornelius, profesor del Departamento del Antiguo Cercano Oriente (ACO) en la Universidad de Stellenbosch en Sudáfrica, escribió este interesante libro que viene a llenar un vacío de un catálogo actualizado con documentación visual para la iconografía de las diosas Anat, Aserá, Astarté y Qedeset del período de 1500 a 1000 a.C. Las divinidades de Siria-Palestina son conocidas desde la Biblia Hebrea, los textos de Ugarit, Egipto y desde inscripciones fenicias y grecorromanas. En este sentido, Cornelius se pregunta, ¿cuál fue la iconografía de cada diosa como parte de la “religión visible”?
