La teología pastoral busca discernir cursos de acción que colaboren con el obrar salvífico de Dios. Se elabora a partir de la experiencia creyente de sujetos concretos, que siempre son miembros de un pueblo y que están atravesados por una historia y una cultura común. En América Latina, la historia muestra que la Virgen María ha sido una protagonista de primer orden en el proceso por el que se fue inculturando la fe. Tanto, que se ha vuelto parte del ADN cultural del Continente y su presencia marca la vida cristiana de enormes mayorías. En este artículo se exploran las raíces histórico culturales de este cristianismo de rostro mariano, tomando al acontecimiento guadalupano como hito arquetípico de lo que será la presencia y la acción de María en el pueblo naciente. El hilo conductor lo marca la lectura teológica sobre la evangelización fundante de América Latina que desarrolla el teólogo argentino Rafael Tello, que entiende que con la aparición del cristianismo popular latinoamericano se despliegan nuevas riquezas de la Revelación en la historia. Una de estas nuevas riquezas es una mayor comprensión del misterio de la Madre de Dios y su lugar en la redención.
Pastoral theology seeks to discern courses of action that collaborate with the salvific work of God. It is elaborated from the believing experience of concrete subjects, who are always members of a people and who are traversed by a common history and culture. In Latin America, history shows that the Virgin Mary has been a protagonist of the first order in the process by which the faith was inculturated. So much so that she has become part of the cultural DNA of the continent and her presence marks the Christian life of enormous majorities. This article explores the historical and cultural roots of this Christianity with a Marian face, taking the Guadalupan event as an archetypal milestone of what will be the presence and action of Mary in the nascent people. The guiding thread is marked by the theological reading of the founding evangelization of Latin America developed by the Argentine theologian Rafael Tello, who understands that with the emergence of Latin American popular Christianity, new riches of Revelation unfold in history. One of these new riches is a greater understanding of the mystery of the Mother of God and her place in redemption.
