Analysis with confocal laser of tooth-restorative material interface using bioactive ecapsulated cements

AIMS:. To assess the interfaces between the dentine and three encapsulated glass-ionomer-based posterior restorative cements by means of Confocal LASER microscopy. METHODS: 18 Class 1 cavities, sized 4x4x4mm were produced in the middle of the occlusal surface of recently extracted healthy third molars. Cavities were filled using three posterior glass-ionomer-based cements according to manufacturers´ instructions: Group 1: EQUIA system (GC America, Chicago, US); Group 2: Chemfil Rock (Denstply/De Trey, Konstanz, GE; Group 3: Glass Carbomer Fil (GCP Dental, Verhein, NED). Samples were analysed using Confocal LASER microscope LSM5 (Pascal Zeiss, Germany). 10 points were measured randomly from the pulpal wall of each cavity, using.the AXIO-Vs 40 V 4.8.2.0 software (Carl Zeiss MicroImaginGmbH). Statistical analysis was performed by means of SPSS v.15 software. RESULTS: Mean values meassured from gaps in the interfaces analysed were: EQUIA. 0,47um; Chemfill Rock 0,6um; Glass Carbomer GCP 2,25um. CONCLUSIONS: Widest interfaces were found using Glass Carbomer restoratives, followed by Chemfil Rock and EQUIA respectively.
