De asceta a amante. Transformaciones en las versiones latinas de la leyenda de San Alejo hasta el siglo XIII

El presente artículo rastrea importantes cambios textuales de las principales versiones latinas de la leyenda de San Alejo entre los siglos X y XIII. El objetivo es lograr entender qué transformaciones sufrió la materia en el traspaso de su original contexto bizantino a Europa Occidental. La hipótesis principal es que hubo dos procedimientos de adaptación fundamentales. El primero consistió en reinterpretar a San Alejo como un antecesor de los eremitas que reivindicaban la pobreza voluntaria durante la Baja Edad Media. El segundo radicó en comprender la historia de este santo bajo el paradigma del así denominado amor de lonh (amor de lejos) que circulaba a partir del siglo XII en la poesía y la narrativa cortesana.
This article considers some relevant textual changes occurred in the most important Latin versions of Saint Alexis’ legend between the 10th and 13th centuries. The aim is to understand the transformation of the story in the passage from its original byzantine context into Western Europe. The main thesis argued is that there were two fundamental adaptation procedures. The first one consisted in reinterpreting Saint Alexis as a predecessor of the eremites who assumed voluntary poverty during the High Middle Ages. The second interpretation lay in understanding this saint’s story by the model of the so called amor de lonh (distant love), which was very common amongst the courtly poetry and narrative from the 12th century on.
