To date the discrimination of newly hatched caiman into malesand females has not been possible by observing the externalgenitalia. We show that such separation can be achieved fromsimple measures that can be recorded on the cliteropenis. Thephotographic measurement technique detailed herein was alsotried on live hatchlings, which decreases stress on the hatchlingscompared to measuring with digital calipers
