Descripción
We discuss the application of the so-called differential transform method (DTM) to a particular solution of the Duffing–van der Pol oscillator. We argue that the example is of scarce physical utility and that the DTM is merely the well-known Taylor series method. We show that the results are affected by round-off errors that are unexpected for such an extremely simple problem. We also disclose the limitations of the DTM-Taylor series solutions for nonlinear problems.
