Justa Ezpeleta y Elsie Rockwell: la construcción de una etnografía educativa en los años 70/80 y sus usos de Antonio Gramsci

Desde la historia intelectual, el artículo analiza los usos de Antonio Gramsci por parte de la argentina Justa Ezpeleta y la mexicana Elsie Rockwell en los años 70 y 80. En el marco de la estructuración de una original y pionera etnografía educativa en el Departamento de Investigaciones Educativas (DIE), Distrito Federal (México), las autoras asumieron a Gramsci como una referencia teórica decisiva. Entrados los años 70, el DIE será el espacio de encuentro entre Ezpeleta y Rockwell donde desplegarán una singular línea de investigación: la etnografía educativa. Si bien esta contaba con antecedentes en el ámbito anglosajón, las autoras establecieron una perspectiva original. Entre los referentes teóricos, se encontró el pensamiento gramsciano. El artículo sugiere que las autoras emplearon a Gramsci en cuatro niveles: a) fundamentar la perspectiva epistemológica; b) develar la historicidad del vínculo entre Estado, sociedad civil e institución escolar; c) analizar la cotidianidad escolar de las clases subalternas; d) postular un proyecto político-educativo basado en la autonomía y el protagonismo popular. La etnografía educativa elaborada por las autoras y apoyada en el acervo gramsciano, se volverá un punto de referencia en la investigación educativa en Latinoamérica.
From the intellectual history, the article analyzes the uses of Antonio Gramsci by the Argentine Justa Ezpeleta and the Mexican Elsie Rockwell in the 70s and 80s. Within the framework of the structuring of an original and pioneering educational ethnographic in the Research Department Educativas (DIE), Federal District (Mexico), the authors assumed Gramsci as a decisive theoretical reference. In the 1970s, the DIE will be the meeting place between Ezpeleta and Rockwell. There, they will deploy a unique line of research: educational ethnography. Although this had antecedents in the Anglo-Saxon sphere, the authors established an original perspective. Among the theoretical referents, Gramsci’s thought was central. The article suggests that the authors used Gramsci on four levels: a) founding the epistemological perspective; b) reveal the historicity of the link between the State, civil society and the school institution; c) analyze the everyday school life of the subaltern classes; d) postulate a political-educational project based on autonomy and popular protagonism. The educational ethnography elaborated by the authors and based on Gramsci’s thought, will become a point of reference in educational research in Latin America.
