Antoine de Tounens deja el testimonio de lo que vivió en Chile al proclamarse rey de Araucanía y Patagonia, plasmado en un texto que abre un espacio problemático y fronterizo entre autobiografía, testimonio y memorias; al tratarse de una escritura que intenta documentar su tragedia personal. El texto será indagado a partir de la conjetura de que fue la interpelación de la Justicia (que en un primer momento lo acusa de ser un “criminal” que atenta contra la soberanía de Chile, para luego considerarlo como un “loco”) la que impulsa una escritura con irrupciones autobiográficas, momentos en que el discurso pierde el argumento apologético y aparecen fragmentos de su vida anteriores al proceso judicial. Se pondrán en consideración, también, las distintas interpretaciones que suscitó su historia y se las contrastará con el testimonio que deja este proyecto fallido de una monarquía constitucional en Sudamérica; teniendo en cuenta que la figura del “loco” o del “Quijote patagónico”, puede acercarnos a una imagen alegórica sobre la colonización.

The text will be investigated from the conjecture that was the interpellation of Justice (which at first accused of being a “criminal” that threatens the sovereignty of Chile, then considers it as a “crazy”) that drives a script with autobiographical irruptions; times when the speech loses the apologetic argument and fragments of his life prior to trial appear. Will be put into consideration also different interpretations raised its history and the contrast with the testimony that you leave this failed project of a constitutional monarchy in South America; considering that the figure of “crazy” or “patagónico Quixote” can approach an allegorical image on colonization.
