Como tesis filosófica el determinismo parece amenazar nuestras creencias, prácticas e instituciones normativas. Categorías como las de censura, elogio, responsabilidad o castigo parecen desvanecerse si aceptamos dicha tesis. En el marco de una versión compatibilista, defiendo que podemos reconciliar la aceptación de cierto tipo de determinismo con la defensa de la idea de acción libre y responsable. Contrasto mi tesis con el ámbito de la ética y, en particular, con la esfera del derecho y la dogmática penal.
As a philosophical thesis, determinism seems to threaten our beliefs, practices, and normative institutions. Categories such as censure, praise, responsibility or punishment seem to vanish if we accept that argument. In the framework of a compatibilist version, I argue that we can reconcile the acceptance of certain types of determinism with the defense of the idea of free and responsible action. I contrast my thesis to the field of ethics, and in particular, to the area of criminal law and criminal legal dogmatics
