Descripción
In this study the catalytic properties of low-loaded CeOx-Pd/α-Al2O3 and Pd-CeOx/α-Al2O3 catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation with and without CH4 at 873 K is investigated. This study is the first carried out on promoted low Pd loading catalyst at high temperature. The catalysts showed high activity for the RWGS reaction, meeting the CAMERE process requirements. The addition of ceria (0.8 - 5.3 wt%) significantly improved CO2 conversionand CO selectivity. Interestingly, the impregnation order of Ce and Pd did not affect the catalytic performance. CeOx-Pd/α-Al2O3 catalysts produced almost exclusively CO, while Pd-CeOx/α-Al2O3 achieved selectivities above 99 %. The reaction rate increased by about 5 times compared to Pd/α-Al2O3, depending on Ce content. Pd-CeOx/α-Al2O3 showed rate independence with the Ce loading, while CeOx-Pd/α-Al2O3 exhibited a maximum rate for 3 wt% of Ce. Long-term experiments confirmed the stability of Pd-CeOx/α-Al2O3 catalysts. FTIR spectroscopy and chemisorption measurements confirmed the surface characteristics of fresh and used catalysts. CeOx-Pd/α-Al2O3 catalysts exhibited a surfa ce consistent with the absence of CH4 formation and promoted the formation of adsorbedbicarbonate species, potentially as intermediate reactions involving CO2 and surface hydroxyls.
