El objetivo del presente trabajo es explorar las posturas políticas de la Federación Socialdemócrata (SDF), un partido socialista británico afiliado a la Segunda Internacional, hacia la segunda guerra bóer (1899-1902), para lo cual adopta un marco temporal que va desde la Incursión de Jameson en 1896 hasta el final de la guerra en 1902. El artículo propone un enfoque que articule el estudio de la producción teórica con el de la vida política de la SDF, contemplando tanto los distintos posicionamientos políticos ante el imperialismo y la guerra, los debates entablados a partir de estos y sus consecuencias para el desarrollo interno de la organización, como también el activismo político del partido para oponerse al conflicto y los lazos entablados con otros grupos y personalidades del movimiento pro-bóer. El trabajo está basado en el análisis de fuentes primarias, principalmente en artículos del periódico del partido Justice y de su revista teórica The Social-Democrat, en libros de la época y en panfletos del movimiento pro-bóer. De esta forma, explora en su conjunto una corriente del socialismo británico esencialmente internacionalista y antiimperialista.
The aim of the present work is to explore the political positions of the Social Democratic Federation (SDF), a British socialist party affiliated to the Second International, towards the Second Boer War (1899-1902), for which it adopts a time frame that goes from the Jameson Raid in 1896 to the end of the war in 1902. The article proposes an approach that articulates the study of the theoretical production with that of the political life of the SDF, contemplating the different political positions towards imperialism and the war, the debates initiated from these and their consequences for the internal development of the organization, as well as the political activism of the party to oppose the conflict and the ties established with other groups and personalities of the pro-Boer movement. The work is based on the analysis of primary sources, mainly on articles from the party newspaper Justice and its theoretical magazine The Social-Democrat, on books of the time and on pamphlets from the pro-Boer movement. In this way, it explores as a whole a current of British socialism that is essentially internationalist and anti-imperialist.
