Towards a specific field of studies on migratory and health processes within Public Health

Construction of an approach for comprehending the phenomenon of migrationsover the course of human history, focusing exclusively on international flows,leads us to define them, in the way in which they are manifested today, asa consequence of so-called globalization, thought of as the current stage ofdevelopment of the worldwide capitalist system. International migratoryflows constitute sociopolitical and economic changes with local and globalconsequences that are constantly brought into action and deepened under thesway of the globalization process. We consider that it is necessary to address the processes of structural violencethat exist in the urban centers that receive immigrants, along with those identified at regional level. Moreover, the relationship of these processes with different illness processes suffered by individuals belonging to these socioculturally subordinated groups need to be examined. These individuals' lifestyle, work and housing have developed in particular contexts marked by social vulnerability and by concrete situations of risks to health.
A construção de uma abordagem para a compreensão do fenômeno das migrações ao longo da história humana, com foco exclusivo nos fluxos internacionais, conduz-nos a defini-los, em sua forma de manifestação atual, como consequência da chamada globalização, concebida como o atual estágio de desenvolvimento do sistema capitalista mundial. Os fluxos migratórios internacionais constituem mudanças sociopolíticas e econômicas, com repercussões globais e locais, constantemente acionadas e aprofundadas sob o domínio do processo da globalização.
